Clothing fabric is one of the three elements of garment. Fabric can not only interpret the style and characteristics of clothing, but also directly affect the performance of garment color and shape. We divide different material fabrics into five categories, the details are as follows.

Soft Fabric

Soft fabrics are generally light and thin, with good drape, smooth modeling lines, and natural stretch of clothing outlines. It mainly includes knitted fabrics and silk fabrics with scattered fabric structures and soft and thin hemp yarn fabrics. Soft knitted fabrics are often used in garment design to use a concise shape to reflect the beautiful body curve of the human body. Silk, linen and other fabrics are more loose and pleated, showing the flow of fabric lines.

Tip: Cotton fabrics are soft and comfortable, with excellent skin-friendly and breathable properties, so they are mostly used on intimate clothing. Cotton sweaters and cotton pants are the representatives of cotton knitted clothing. Wearing padded clothes in the cold winter is like being in the arms of mother, full of security and strong warmth. Cotton underwear is also beneficial to the physical health of girls.

Stiff Fabric

The stiff fabric has clear lines and a sense of volume, which can form a plump clothing silhouette. Common stiff fabrics include cotton, polyester-cotton, corduroy, linen, and various medium-thick wool and chemical fiber fabrics, which can be used in the design of accurately highlighting the shape of garment, such as the design of suits and business wear.

Glossy Fabric

Glossy fabrics have a smooth surface and reflective, including satin-structured fabrics. Most commonly used in dresses, evening gowns or stage costumes for a flamboyant, powerful visual effect.

Thick Heavy Fabric

Thick heavy fabrics are thick and stiff for stable styling, including a wide range of heavyweight woolen and quilted fabrics. The fabric has a sense of physical expansion, and it is not suitable to use too many pleats and accumulations. In the design, the A-type and H-type appearances are the most appropriate.

Transparent Fabric

The sheer fabric has a light and transparent texture, with an elegant and mysterious artistic effect. Including cotton, silk, chemical fiber fabrics, etc., such as georgette, satin silk, chemical fiber lace and so on. In order to express the transparency of the fabric, the natural and plump lines are often used, and the H-shaped and circular cone-shaped design shapes are rich in changes.

Tip: Silk blouses, skirts and suspenders are common summer items. Some people worry that silk is too mature and has a sense of age, but wearing the right style can add femininity on the basis of girlish temperament.
