Playfully called the 'Oscars of Science', the Breakthrough Prize is now in its 11th year, and is pulling in the biggest names in Hollywood to help celebrate. The ceremony, which took place in Los Angeles over the weekend and was hosted by James Corden, honours scientists, doctors and researchers who have made significant breakthroughs in their respective fields.

This year, the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson and Alicia Keys were on hand to give out awards, rubbing shoulders with tech titans including Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, as well as some of the biggest names in the world of science, many that have made advances that have dramatically improved our lives.
